She was only twenty-eight weeks pregnant with triplet daughters, her body shaking from sudden medical complications. For months, Hailey had followed every medical instruction, leaving her job early and turning the guest room into a peaceful nursery with three small white cribs.

“Afterward, we finally start our real life together,” Porter said.

Hailey stared at the phone as Dr. Mercer and Nurse Jasmine heard every single word of the conversation. The man she had trusted was sitting inside a comfortable lounge with another woman while their daughters struggled to enter the world safely.

“End the call right now,” Hailey said, feeling a sudden calm determination replace her lingering fear.

“We will take care of the paperwork immediately,” Dr. Mercer nodded. A hospital social worker arrived with the necessary forms, and Hailey signed them with an unsteady hand before being taken into surgery.
